Since 2007, FONDACA has been the scientific partner in the Barilla Group project "Path Towards Sustainability". The Italian food company is the leader in the pasta, pasta sauces, bakery products and crispbread industry. After an initial assessment of the existing activities and of the external challenges, a new Sustainability Model was developed. It is organized into "challenges, commitments and objectives", which the company first implemented in its headquarters in Parma and is now implementing worldwide in its subsidiaries.
From the very beginning all the main stakeholders of the company have been involved in the process. Regarding that, all the subjects, interested directly or indirectly by Barilla activities, have been mapped evaluating different parameters and outlining, in a precise way, the relations framework of the group. The Sustainability Model itself, furthermore, has been created by blending the business priorities and the stakeholders' necessities, collected from a number of operative workshops and open dialogues. In order to enforce its sustainability strategies communication and to provide the company with a new management tool, Barilla has decided to report annually on its activities by writing a Sustainability Report, aligned with the international standard Global Reporting Initiative and developed in such a way as to curb the ordinary social reporting limits. FONDACA assists Barilla in following this direction by providing both an important research patrimony and counseling support, as well as sharing resources and methodologies, aligned with the main global trends while also including innovatory aspects. |
