CIVIC ACTIVISM
New citizens: from common places to common goods. The initiative on immigration organized by Cittadinanzattiva and the U.S. embassy in Italy and entitled “New citizens: from common places to common goods” was held on 25th January in the halls of the Senate. The focus of the sessions of the day was on the issue of immigration and its correlation with the new forms of citizenship. Giovanni Moro, president of FONDACA, participated in the works presenting the results of the research “New Citizenships. The civic integration of immigrants”.
Civil Society Index project - second edition. The final National Conference will be held next April in Rome as part of the second edition of the Civil Society Index project, coordinated at an international level by the NGO Civicus and implemented in Italy by Cittadinanzattiva with the scientific collaboration of FONDACA. The objective of the conference will be to present the results of the research and to collect the comments and observations made by a selected group of stakeholders of civil society organizations on the analysis of Italian civil society which emerged from the survey of 90 associations, the focus groups and the five case studies that characterized the project.

GOVERNANCE
Civil Society organizations and the EU: a critical relationship? On the occasion of the publication of the book Citizens in Europe. Civic Activism and the Community Democratic Experiment written by Giovanni Moro, FONDACA and Cittadinanzattiva of Trentino organized the workshop entitled "Civil Society organizations and the EU: a critical relationship?" that was held on 18th February in Riva del Garda (TN). The workshop was an opportunity to meet and discuss the issue of the relationship between civil society organizations and European institutions. As well as the author, the spokesman for the Arts of Riva del Garda municipality and a few exponents of Trentino civil society took part in the workshop. Fabrizio Franchi, President of the Association of Trentino Journalists, moderated the debate.
Presentations of books. FONDACA organized the presentation of the book Il valore aggiunto. Come la sussidiarietà può salvare l’Italia, together with the Province of Rome, Department of Cultural Policies and Carocci Editore. The book was written by Gregorio Arena and Giuseppe Cotturi and published by Carocci Editore, and the presentation was held in Palazzo Valentinti in Rome on December 16th. The event, introduced by Cecilia D’Elia, also included the participation of Giovanni Moro, Luca Antonini, Carlo Mochi, Laura Pennacchi and Livia Turco as well as the authors and was an occasion to discuss and reflect on the horizontal subsidiarity principle that recognizes the relevant role of citizens and associations in the public realm. The Foundation also organized, with the Province of Rome, Department of Cultural Policies, Fondazione Etica and Activecitizenship, the seminar entitled “I gruppi di interesse tra rappresentanza e influenza” (Groups of interest between representation and influence) held in Palazzo Valentini in Rome on February 25th, on the occasion of the publication of the book I gruppi di interesse, written by Liborio Mattina and published by il Mulino. Besides the author, Fabio Bistoncini, Vittorio Cino, Gian Paolo Manzella, Leonardo Morlino e Giovanni Moro participated in the event and discussed and reflected on the presence, diffusion, features and the relevance of interest groups in modern democracies.

CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP
FONDACA becomes GRI Certified Training Partner. On February 21st FONDACA officially became a GRI Certified Training Partner in Italy. GRI Certified Training Partners are the organizations that GRI certifies to conduct the GRI Certified Training Program in their national territories. To participate in the process, FONDACA had to demonstrate its experience in organizing training courses for middle management and also its CSR knowledge. More detailed information will be available soon on the website.
Stakeholder Engagement: Exploring New Frontiers. On 20th April a workshop on the new frontiers of stakeholder engagement will take place in Milan. It will be organized in partnership by Barilla and FONDACA. Academics, firm and civil society representatives will participate as speakers and discussants in order to compare different theoretical and operative opinions and to create new knowledge regarding stakeholder engagement. More detailed information will be on line soon.

On January 21st, the sixth edition of the Master's in Corporate Citizenship. Integrated strategies of corporate responsibility, organized by FONDACA in collaboration with Boston College and Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, ended. During this last module, project ideas developed by the participants were presented. In March, instead, the results of the Survey on training opportunities in the field of corporate citizenship, that FONDACA is conducting as part of the redesigning of training activities for the year 2011, will be available.
The new report 2010, that illustrates the main activities that FONDACA carried out throughout the last year, ranging over the three thematic areas to which it is committed: civic activism, new forms of governance, corporate citizenship. To view the document click here
On February 24th , the conference “Big-Society Project: a great opportunity for civil society”, at which Lord Nat Wei, Government Chief Advisor on Big Society Cabinet Office, presented the political proposal of the British Government to put civil society at the heart of the welfare system, was held at Palazzo Cipolla in Rome. Giovanni Moro, President of FONDACA, attended the conference. Read more
