Civil Society Index. The second edition of the Civil Society Index research project is going on. FONDACA is gathering information on five dimensions of the Italian civil society: civic engagement, level of organisation, practice of values, perceived impact, external environment. The survey will be carried out through the consultation of international sources, the analysis of five case studies, the implementation of two researches involving a sample of civil society's organisations and a sample of experts.
EAST - European and Asia Strategies. Next number of the magazine EAST - European and Asia Strategies will publish an article on the European Citizens' Consultation process. In Italy the initiative has been carried out by Cittadinanzattiva in spring time. The article is written by Monica Ruffa and Mariano Votta and it includes also a contribute from Giovanni Moro.
GOVERNANCE
Civic Evaluation. Working group at Department for Public Administration. On 16 July 2009 a Working group on civic evaluation has been convened at the Department for Public Administration of Italian Government. The group has been created to assess the results of a testing carried out in 2008 by the Department for Public Administration and Cittadinanzattiva movement. The testing concerned citizens' involvement in the evaluation of municipal services and schools, on the base of the Civic Audit experience, promoted by Cittadinanzattiva since the end of 1990s and carried out especially in local health agencies and hospitals. The Working group aims at setting up and disseminating the civic evaluation methodology taking into account the testing results. It involves representatives of the Government's Department for Public Administration, Formez and Cittadinanzattiva movement. FONDACA as well was asked to take part in the group and Giovanni Moro and Monica Ruffa are now part of it.
From poverty to power. How Active Citizens and Effective States Can Change the World. The presentation of the book From poverty to power. How Active Citizens and Effective States Can Change the World written by Duncan Green, Oxfam Scientific Director, was held on July 17 in Pratovecchio (Arezzo). The presentation, organized by Ucodep, was an opportunity to reflect together on the possible cooperation between states and active citizenship in order to promote change. In addition to author main speakers of the meeting were Rosy Bindy, Vicepresident Chamber of Deputies; Massimo Toschi, Counselor for international cooperation Tuscany Region; Giovanni Moro, President of FONDACA; Francesco Petrelli, President of Ucodep. CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP
Euro-American Colloquia on Citizenship. The American Session 2009 of the Euro-American Colloquia on Citizenship will be held on October 28-29 in Boston and New York. Main speaker of the seminar on "Feeding Ourselves, Feeding the World: Food, Governance and Sustainability" will be Paolo Barilla, VP of Barilla G. & R. Fratelli. FONDACA will organize the session in cooperation with the Centre for Responsible Leadership, Boston College and the City University of New York. Italian companies orientation on CSR. An investigation on Italian Global Compact participants. The second edition of the overview on “Italian companies orientation on CSR. An investigation on Italian Global Compact participants” is nowadays ongoing. The investigation shoot for identifying the main characteristics of the Italian Global Compact participants’ approach to CSR. Communication and information instruments produced by companies themselves will be used as main source of reference. The main conclusions of the investigation will be presented on November in Rome. Further details will soon be available on the Global Compact Italy website.
The second session of the Master's Degree in Corporate Citizenship - 5th edition was held from July 14 to 16 in Rome. This second phase was based on the practical and applicative aspects of corporate citizenship. Read more about the course
The 23rd annual conference of the Italian Society of Political Science will be held on September 17-19 in Rome. The conference includes plenary sessions and panel discussions focused on different topics. Read more about the conference
The Board of Directors’ meeting of the Foundation was held on July 10 at FONDACA’s office. On this occasion the 2008 final balance was approved and the 2009-2010 planning strategies were discussed.
