For some time now FONDACA has been following with interest the developments of community organizing in the United States. This interest is mainly due to the fact that in the U.S. experience this methodology, created by the organization practices of marginalized communities in large urban centers, has grown on one hand in terms of scientific knowledge and processing know-how, and on the other in terms of public policies on urban governance.
In this framework, and making the most of the opportunity offered by the course "Theories and practices of active citizenship", that Giovanni Moro holds at the Faculty of Education at the University of Roma Tre, two lectures on the subject were organized in Spring 2011.
The first lesson, entitled "Barack Obama and Saul Alinsky: community organizing in the United States", was held by Mattia Diletti of the University La Sapienza in Rome on March 25th, 2011. The second lesson was held by Alessandro Coppola of the Polytechnic of Milan on May 20th 2011 and was entitled: "From ghetto uprisings to the redevelopment of neighborhoods. From Alinsky's Community Organizing to the Community Development of the Obama era". |
